Creative Therapy Tools: Bean Bins

Bean bins are great because they are easy to make, and fun to play with. Here at Circle Creek Therapy, we like to use bean bins in our speech therapy sessions. As you can see in the above photo, our little model Noah is putting stickers into the bin. As he is doing that, out speech therapists will ask him questions like:

  • "What animal is that?"

  • "Is this an elephant or a giraffe?"

  • "Which one is your favorite animal?"

  • "What sound does a lion make?"

  • "Can you find the flamingo?"

We do not exclusively just use stickers in our bins either. We can use anything that will fit! Sometimes we add toys like cars, colorful circles, or small dolls. By making this game interactive, our pediatric clients are more likely to engage with the speech therapist. Then, the child can start to build more words in his or her vocabulary.

If your child is behind in their language development, our bean bin activity can be a great way to bring out more words or sounds. For more information, please give us a call at 253.237.3405. We would love to help you!
